Nie co dzień można zobaczyć przywódcę jednego kraju z twarzą ozdobioną flagą innego kraju. Ale też nie co dzień można zobaczyć Donalda Tuska spacerującego ulicami Kirkcaldy.
Były Premier Polski i Przewodniczący Rady Europy przybył do Fife na zaproszenie grupy Macieja Dokurno, w nadziei na zdobycie poparcia Polaków w tym regionie w wyborach w 2008 roku.
Wizyta Tuska okazała się hitem, szczególnie że zdecydował się na namalowanie na policzkach dwóch flag: polskiej na jednym, i szkockiej na drugim.
Niestety, politycy nie podzielili entuzjazmu społeczności polskiej. Propozycję spotkania odrzucili Alex Salmond i Gordon Brown, który w tamtym czasie był zarówno Premierem UK jak i posłem z okręgu Kirkcaldy.
It’s not every day you see the leader of a nation wearing the flag of another country painted on his face, but then again it’s not every day you see Donald Tusk walking down the streets of Kirkcaldy.
The former Polish Prime Minister and President of the European Council visited Fife during the Polish General Election campaign of 2008 at the invitation of Maciej’s group, in the hope of gaining votes from Polish people in the area.
Tusk’s visit was a hit with the local people as he stopped off at a face-painting stall to have the Polish flag painted on one cheek and the Scottish Saltire on the other.
He was less popular with the political classes, though. Alex Salmond turned down an invitation to meet him as did Gordon Brown, who was UK Prime Minister at the time and also MP for the town of Kirkcaldy which Tusk was visiting.
