Świat pełen jest ludzi, którzy wciąż wierzą w istnienie istot nadprzyrodzonych. W Szkocji wielu jest przekonanych, że wróżki żyją pośród nas, co było dla mnie dość idiotycznym pomysłem, dopóki nie wybrałem się na wymarzoną wycieczkę na wyspę Skye.
Wspaniałe w tym cudownym miejscu jest to, że niezależnie od pogody, magia jest wszechobecna. A gdzie jest magia, na pewno są i wróżki.
Dzięki tej krótkiej wizycie, Fairy Pools (Baseny Wróżek) stały się jednym z moich ulubionych miejsc. W jednej chwili zrozumiałem, dlaczego ludowe wierzenia są tu wciąż żywe.
Przyjechaliśmy na parking, idealnie usytuowany po drugiej stronie łańcucha górskiego i z miejsca zachwycił nas widok: szlak prowadzący wprost do naszego celu, pełen turystów, którzy w majowy poranek pokonywali górskie stromizny.
Z plecakami wyruszyliśmy w naszą podróż. Otoczeni wysokimi szczytami gór, najpierw zeszliśmy w dół, do doliny, a potem w górę, za strumieniem ozdobionym malowniczymi wodospadami i basenami.
Szlak jest dość długi, dojście do celu może zająć około dwóch godzin. Nie można go przegapić – w centralnej części szczytu, pośród wodnej mgiełki, wyłania się dumnie trójkątny kształt z ogromną szczeliną pośrodku. Wygląda jak wrota do innego wymiaru, a może do innych czasów.
Podobno wróżki przybywają tu, żeby myć swoje skrzydełka. My napotkaliśmy tylko grupkę nagich mężczyzn, którzy odważyli się na kąpiel. Osobiście zanurzyłem tylko palec, ale obiecałem sobie, że wrócę tu, kiedy słońce będzie świeciło mocno, i wtedy wejdę do wody – jak wróżki.
FAKTY
Każdy może odwiedzić piękne Fairy Pools, fenomenalne wodospady na wyspie Skye. Znajdują się w Glen Brittle, gdzie nieposkromione strumienie lazurowej, zimnej wody tworzą baseny, w których można się wykąpać. Baseny rozciągnięte są wzdłuż ścieżki o długości około 2,5 km na wzgórzu o średnim nachyleniu.
Jak większość szkockich wysp i gór, Fairy Pools kształtowały się 50-70 millionów lat temu, kiedy części kontynentu północnoamerykańskiego odrywały się od Europy, wyzwalając olbrzymie moce wulkaniczne i geologiczne. Obecnie skalisty krajobraz obfituje w tereny bagniste, często można zaobserwować dzikie zwierzęta. To popularny cel turystyczny i z pewnością powinien się znaleźć na Twojej liście.
All over the world, there are people who believe supernatural beings still live in these modern days. In Scotland, a big chunk of the population is wholeheartedly convinced fairies are living among us – which was always a quite ridiculous notion to me until a recent dreamy trip to the Isle of Skye.
The wonderful thing about this amazing place is that no matter what weather you encounter, the magic never disappears. And where there’s magic, there sure are fairies too.
Our brief visit to Fairy Pools made this one of my favourite places ever. In an instant, I could understand how and why some folk stories survive and live on.
We arrived at a perfectly situated car park on the other side of the mountain range and what a view we were already offered: you could see the route that needs to be taken to your destination straight away and many tourists in that early May morning were heading there and back.
With backpacks on, we set off on our voyage of discovery. All around, there are high reaching mountain tops, and you first need to descend to a low valley to later follow the stream path that is decorated with so many lovely little pools and waterfalls.
The trail is quite long, you might need about two hours to get to the top but there is no doubt where your final destination is – on the top centre of all this beauty in the midst of the foggy mist stands a proud piece of a triangular mountain with a full-length crack in the middle, looking like a gate to a different dimension or maybe different times.
It is said that the fairies come and wash their wings in these pools. We encountered few naked men along the way taking a brave dip. I, personally, dipped just my finger this time with a promise to myself to return soon again, when the sun is out, and go full fairy in.

Everyone can visit the beautiful Fairy pools, a natural waterfall phenomenon on the Isle of Skye. It is located in Glen Brittle, where the wild streams of azure blue cold water create multiple swimmable pools along the walking path long about 2.5km up the medium steep hill.
Like most parts of the Scottish Islands and Highlands, the Fairy Pools formation started 50-70 million years ago when parts of the North American continent tore away from Europe and set off huge volcanic and geological reactions. Today’s mostly rocky landscape has some boggy areas here and there and is home to many species from the animal
kingdom. It is a well-known tourist destination and one that should definitely make it onto your bucket list.
